Carl Lee Perkins (April 9, 1932 – January 19, 1998) was an American pioneer of rockabilly music, a mix of rhythm and blues and country music that evolved at Sun Records in Memphis in the early 1950s.Born in Tiptonville, Tennessee, as a poor tenant farmer, Perkins grew up surrounded by southern gospel music sung by Black cotton field workers. By age seven, he was playing a guitar his father made from a cigar box, broomstick and baling wire. At age thirteen, he won a talent contest with a song he wrote called "Movie Magg". Ten years later, the same song convinced Sam Phillips to sign Perkins to his Sun Records label.In late 1955, a desperately poor and struggling Perkins wrote the song "Blue Suede Shoes" on an old potato sack. Produced by Sam Phillips, the record was a massive chart success. In the United States, it went to #1 on Billboard magazine's country music charts (the only #1 hit he would have), to #4 on the pop music charts, and to #3 on the rhythm & blues charts. In the United Kingdom, it became a Top 10 hit. It was the first record by a Sun label artist to sell a million copies. However, at the peak of the song's national success, Perkins was involved in a near-fatal car accident. Perkins could only watch as his friend, Elvis Presley, had a huge hit with a cover version of "Blue Suede Shoes".Invariably, Carl's contributions have received short-shrift in the numerous biographical films about the other members of the 'Million Dollar Quartet' (Presley, Cash & Lewis). His only notable film performance as an actor was in John Landis' 1985 film "Into the Night", a cameo-laden film that includes a scene where characters played by Carl and David Bowie die at each other's hand.And Carl Perkins died at the age of 65 from throat cancer after suffering several strokes. This is a movie that made reference from biography of Dorothy Dandridge follows her career through early days on the club circuit with her sister to her turn in movies, including becoming the first black actress to win a Best Actress Nomination in 1954 for "Carmen Jones", to her final demise to prescription drugs, which was debated whether it was suicide or accidental. First, I have to say " The cause from the past were the reason of today." As I saw on the American women charecteristics today maybe because they ever passed hard time like in World War II period that they had to do men duties. So it effects their charector in the present such as independent, working women,confidence, dare to do or speak, think men and women are equal etc. Yeah!! On the film, you could see many women smoking and drinking. And I saw that woman fashion in that time like to wear gloves. When I was watching this movie, I feel like I follow the story of a woman that want to be a star but a long the way she had to struggle or face with many obstacles. Espespacially, discriminate color skin cause in that time human right still not equal. Maybe because the origin of black people were African people that the past were savage of European people, so that maybe a reason why they were treat not equal. But today it's not like that everybody are threat as equal, have equal right cause we are human like each others.

This is a movie that shown the situation of the wartime, the film story were the part of history that would help you could learn/know more about the wartime and it's the real story that really happened in that time. The story about, Major Caton takes command of the small Marine garrison on Wake Island in November 1941. His tendency toward spit and polish upsets the men's tropical lassitude, but Pearl Harbor changes everything. Soon the island is attacked and the Marines pull together day by day. With no hope of relief or re-supply, a small band of United States Marines try to keep the Japanese Navy from capturing their island base. As an island is the result of a pre-World War II.

The Americanization of Emiy is a great world war II film projected in 1964, it takes place in London during the month before D-Day in the spring of 1944. It's a romantic story during the war period of lieutenant Commander Charlie Madison is a charismatic "Dog Robber" for Navy Admiral William Jessup. A "Dog Robber" is a sort of personal assistant whose chief duty is that of procurement officer, charged with keeping his admiral or general well-clothed, well-fed and well-loved during the battle with considerable emphasis on the latter and Emily Barham is a war widow working the motor pool who is assigned to drive Charlie to the supply station to pick up steaks, eggs, fruit and plenty of booze for a swank officers’ party.

In the film, showed the characteristics of American people in the war time. Seem everyone had their own duty cause it's the responsibility that they had to do for the country or they had to adapt themselves with wartime. As in the World War II, few men served their counties more ably than a small group of unheralded heros known as "The Dog Robber". A Dog Robber is the personal attendant of a general or admiral and his job is to keep his general or admiral well clothed, well fed, well loved during the battle. Many soldiers had hard stress during wartime so before they go to the army, they would try to fetch happiness things such as go to the club, catch the girl, do what they want to do, etc. maybe because they don't know that they would have the chance to go back home/alive from the war or not. And women had the big changing role, they had to do men works or men duties cause most of the man went to the army and most of them had to be the widow. The foods were lack, many families lost their love some almost insane.

It Happened One Night

It happened one night is a 1934 romantic comedy. This is considered to be the first of the great screwball comedies.

The theme of the film is an appropriate during the Depression Era (droping financial/increasing number of unemploy), is the story of the unlikely romantic pairing of a mis-matched couple - a gruff and indifferent, recently-fired newspaper man, Peter Warne and a snobbish, superior-acting heiress, Ellie Andrews. She was runaway on the lam from her father, a wealthy man because he didn't want her to marriage King Westley that made she met Peter on a bus that she tried to travel from Miami heading to New York. Peter recognized her face that she was a daughter of Andrews, a wealthy man so he made an agreement with her that he would help her go back to her lover, King Westley by exchanging with her story for his article on the newspaper. But with their many adventures coming to an end so every seem unplan or reverse, they find that they are reluctantly in love and afraid to admit it to each other. It is a reversal of the Cinderella story (the heroine rejects her wealthy lifestyle), a modern tale with light-hearted sex appeal in which courtship and love triumph over class conflicts, socio-economic differences, and verbal battles of wit.

The film, composed mostly of a road trip (by bus, car, foot, and by thumb in locales such as bus depots or interiors of buses, and the open road) by the social-class-unmatched couple, contains some of the most classic scenes ever made: the "Walls of Jericho" scene in an auto-camp bungalow so that they can sleep in the same room out of wedlock, the doughnuts-dunking lesson, the hitchhiking scene, the night-time scene on a haystack in a deserted barn, and the dramatic wedding scene. With his good-natured, street-smart, and breezy performance, Gable influenced the un-sale of undershirts by taking off his shirt and exposing his bare chest, and bus travel by women substantially increased as a result of the film.

At first, I thought this movie it must be boring movie for sure because it is a black and white movie, and be an old movie but when I started watching its for a while I even could not leave its to go to anywhere cause I didn't want to miss any shot and really want to know how end of the story. The story is very fun, should follow and I'm the person that like romantic comedy movie so it's not hard that I'm going to love this movie. And it seem that I in love with Peter Warne charecter, he was a chaming, clever man even he looks stiff outside but inside he very soft. How he treated Ellie or took care her, it looks so sweet.

In the movie, you could see American women in that period of time, had short hair, wear cloth that not show body, wear belt on top of dress, wear queer hat, shave off eyebrows and use pencil draw arched eyebrows, etc. And hot dogs, hamburger, donut and popcorn were the American long time foods.

Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) is one of the greatest musicals and entertaining film, also supported the war effort. It released just after the attack on Pearl Harbor in late 1941 the earlier for World War I by based on the story of George M. Cohan and his family, father, mother and sister called The Four Cohans. They were the musician family.

George M. Cohan, he is a musician/entertainer that tried to catch his dream in the broadway.He could dance, sing and writing song.

In the movie, you would see many example of musics, tap dances, part of World War I and especially the depression time that American politic and financial had problem, most of American people were unemployed, difficult to find a job and struggle to servive. A DAY AT THE RACES
(The Roaring Twenties 1919-1920)

It really fun that I have seen how each ages of American culture changed by passing from the movie, even when I compare with Thai culture or other countries culture in the same time period of age, what happen in that time in American culture, most I like to compare with Thai, China or Japan history of culture which country evolution/develop so fast or more advance. Now, I have watched the movie until the roaring twenties age "A day at the races". It's a comedy movie that happened in Sparking Spring Lake; America's foremost summer resort (race track, casino, morgan hotel and sanitarium). The main of the story it about saving sanitarium that has financial problem by gambling on racing horse, have three main comedian characters are Dr.Hackenbush (a horse doctor), Tony and Sheriff be the leading role all the film.

The movie is shown the characteristic of the roaring twenties age very well. You can see that no war anymore and everything seem so prosper, had many new teachnologies like telephone but still must used an operator to get or note the message. Or had intercom telephone that use for internal call. And music became modern classic used more music instrument like piano, violin, drum, pin,saxophone etc. combine together, melody became more complex and more beautiful. About women dress, not untidy, used less cloth when compare with the past, the dress look flowing more than the pass. People liked to do all the entertainment things like casino, gambling, state show (singing/ballet) etc. And finance became prosperous.

The Last Samurai

I have seen this movie once in the theater. I felt that it's a touch move. But when I saw it again from a DVD that A. Cecil gave me . I realize, I missed so many details in the first time watch. The film illustrates some major issues in Japanese histroy and is sometimes cited as a good example of an American film epic, so interesting to follow along the whole movie.

It's a big form great movie from the novel of Helen DeWitt's about an American warriors, Captain Nathan Algren ( played by Tom Cruise). He is late of the 7th Cavalry and their triumphant campaign against the Indian nations. And in1876 Captain Algren's have been hired to teaching oriental to Japanese soldiers. They are an army of conscripts, most of them are peasants who have never even seen a gun. By the emperor grants the U.S. exclusive rights to supply arms. And Captain Algren have been hired to help suppress the rebellion called Samuri, use sword in fight and wear coat of mail. Samuris were leaded by Katsumoto who refused to use firearms and think that Japan is modernizing far too quickly and losing its special identity, to those who honor the old ways, he is a hero.

The emperor is mad for all things western cause he have dream of unified Japan of a country strong and independent and modern. By the encourage of a council, Mr.Omura, he brought lawer from France, engineers from Germany, architects from Holland and warriors from American. I think, he like a evil one, selfish that thought about his own benifits and be the one who did many bad thinds and made things going worst in the movie. In that time of the movie, Japan country was gently infiltrated or recieved the western culture such as have railroad, canon and western clothing. So this the cause of the conflict between two believe of the old way and the new way.

It's made Katsumoto and the all samurai attracked a railroad at the border of his province but the Japanese army of the emperor was not ready to go to this war cause they could not use firearm well. So Captain Algren was captured as a prisoner of war, he was hurt from the war and was took care by Katsumoto sister named Taka. She took care him event he killed her husband. Why she have to be the one who took care him? I don't understand even I ever known that Japanese people so polite and always bow but this is too much cause he killed her husband but she so polite, still and good with him. Maybe because of the way Samurai or Japanese culture way that hard to understand. Katsumoto said that he want to learn his enemy. In the time period that Captain Algren lived whith Samurai village (around 1876-1877), he learned many things about the way of Samurai and Japanese culture. He seen that everyone is polite, smiles and bows. But beneath their courtey, he detect a deep reservoir of the feeling. And it look like he seem falling in love with this culture (peaceful) and the way of the Samurai (clarm) by he did not realize at first. And the scene that Algren tried to learn the way how fight like Samurai until he could discover the peaceful in his mind so he is become a samurai.

Captain Algren, he often have nightmares and like to drink alcohol. I think, he ashamed of what he has done in the against the red Indians war, he killed many native people. It always haunted him. Maybe because he don't want to do it but have to do it cause it's a duty. And I think the Samurai rebellion of Japan, it similars with the agaisnt of the red Indians in America because They were the situation that be the force of conflict between two groups of people that have different want or believe.

The movie is in the Industrail Period that after the American Civil War period finished, America country produced many kind of weapons and sold to other countries, the country that still don't have advance weapon. when I watched the movie, I saw the change from the past period of American in each ages that I have learned. And I feel that western civilization are enlarge cover all over the world since the past untill now.The present are the cause of the past. However this is a great movie that I ever saw. When I'm watching, I feel like I 'm be the part of the movie, feel sad and excite in the same time. Why the same national people have to kill each other? Maybe different believe like Japan case but in American case, it's because of the fight of land/territory because sometime new things come to replace old things, it cause the lost or problems or conflicts. And last I think this movie have many knowledge about the western culture and eastern culture in that period of time and you will see the great technique battle of Samurai side and how they be nationalism. For who like about eastern culture especailly Japan, should watch this movie.

For feature more: an example from of diffrent culture between eastern and weatern cultures. One sence in the movie Captain Algren saw Katsumuto cut the head off defeated, kneeling man. He didn't understand and he thought that Katsumuto so brutal. But the truth is it 's the way of Samurai that man who Katsumuto cut his head was General Hasegawa a leader who command Japanese army. He asked Katsumuto to end his life cause a samurai cannot stand the shame of defeat. So Katsumuto was honored to cut off his head. That why many customs of Samurai and Japanese seem strange to Captain Algren.

When she was about 12 years old, Sacagawea was kidnapped by a war party of Hidatsa Indians, the enemiy of her people, the Shoshones. She was taken to be a captive from Three Forks to Five Villages that very far frome her home. So she grow up and was raised by Hindatsa tribe that make she can speak two languages (Hindatsa and Shoshone languages). And was sold by her master for trading to the French Canadian trader name Toussaint Charbonneau.

The honoring of Sacagawea with her portrail on the dollar coin follows many other similar honors. Many public schools, especially in the Northwest, are named for Sacagawea, as are mountain peaks, streams, and lakes.

When I watched this movie, I felt like I'm watching real story from a documentary movie. It's easy to watch cause tha film look like documentary more than be the ordinary movie. And all the film don't have any dialogs but use describing instead.

This movie, it 's in the Nation Building period that the united state is going to enlarge the country territory by surveying the new area that most of them have the local people live their before. So in the surveying will find many local people that use different language, culture,custom or living style. To communicate with other local people, the explorer invented sign language (not hear word we just see them). In that time, people use exchanging or barter to trade with each other. And in traveling to anywhere, it's very difficult and unconvenient, some time they have to make boat for float along the river or use horse for across the mountain.

Scarlett 2 movie is a continue of Gone with the wine movie, the name and characters are the same but changed the performers.

The movie start with the continue from the end of the first film section. In Scarlett 2, the character of Scarlett O'Hara quit the same but softer from Gone with the wine ,doesn't considering on money as much as in gone with the wine and she has more compassion with other people. Maybe because the lesson that she received from the past in Gone with the wine. Before Melanie Wilkes die Scaritt promise to Melanie that she will take care and look after Melanie son(Beau) and Melanie hasband (Ashley Wilkes) : An only man Scarett has eye on or a man that Scarett always love in the past but now she just realize that she love Rhett Butler her fourth husband but he gave up on her or the love life between him and Scarett already. I think Scarett's starting change after Melanie died. She kept her promise with Melanie by helping Ashley from sadness of his wife passing even it make bad rumor about her. And in one part of the movie, Scarett helped her cousins to pay tax that after civil war tax become the important thing that every house have to pay if not their house is going to destroy. Yes, in the past, Scarett also ever married for the money to pay tax for saving her love home (Tara land).

In this continue film, Scarett characters are still quit the same are a beautiful woman, strong-willed, stubborn, stunningly and very flirtatious with all the gentlemen (maybe it's going to be the pattern of American women in the present) but reduce her selfish and many bad things.

This movie is the movie that showed the situation in colonist period. The British people sailed a ship along the sea to find new lands or trade with people in another part of the world. In the movie a land that they arrived had local people live their call the red Indians or the American Indians and that is America country in the present. In the past, didn’t have money yet so in trading people used exchanging for exchange the thing that each other have. The British people used silverwares to be the thing in trading for exchange furs with the red Indians. In the movie we could see the red Indians people civilization still lower than the British people, they live in small community, have their own common practice or their own believe and never go far from where they live so they don’t know that have other places in other part of the world expect where they live. This made the red Indians was took advantage by the British people easily. And in that period of time many people still though that the world is flat, not round. This movie showed the start of people leaning and communication to each other in different race, language, culture, custom, believe (lean and exchange the thing that another one don’t know or don’t have) and be the time of survey.
