Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), often known simply as Elvis and also called "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or simply "The King", was an American singer and actor. Presley started as a singer of rockabilly, borrowing many songs from rhythm and blues (R&B) numbers and country which morphed into rock & roll. He was the most commercially successful singer of rock and roll, but he also sang ballads, country music as well as gospel. In a musical career of over two decades, Presley set records for concert attendance, television ratings, and record sales, and became one of the biggest artists in music history. The young Presley became an icon of modern American pop culture, sometimes held to represent the American Dream of rising from rags to riches through talent and hard work, more often representing teen sexuality with a hint of delinquency. During the 1970s, Presley reemerged as a steady performer of old and new hit songs on tour and particularly as a performer in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was known for his jump-suits and capes as well as massive attendance figures. Until the last years of his life, he continued to perform before sell-out audiences around the U.S. He died, presumably from a heart attack combined with abuse of prescription drugs, in Memphis, Tennessee. His popularity as a singer has survived his death at 42.
Birth name: Carl Lee Perkins
Born: April 9, 1932
Origin: Tiptonville, Tennessee, USA
Died: January 19,1998
Occupations: Singer,Actor
Genres: rockabilly music, a mix of rhythm and blues and country music
Instrument: Guitar
Carl Lee Perkins (April 9, 1932 – January 19, 1998) was an American pioneer of rockabilly music, a mix of rhythm and blues and country music that evolved at Sun Records in Memphis in the early 1950s.Born in Tiptonville, Tennessee, as a poor tenant farmer, Perkins grew up surrounded by southern gospel music sung by Black cotton field workers. By age seven, he was playing a guitar his father made from a cigar box, broomstick and baling wire. At age thirteen, he won a talent contest with a song he wrote called "Movie Magg". Ten years later, the same song convinced Sam Phillips to sign Perkins to his Sun Records label. In late 1955, a desperately poor and struggling Perkins wrote the song "Blue Suede Shoes" on an old potato sack. Produced by Sam Phillips, the record was a massive chart success. In the United States, it went to #1 on Billboard magazine's country music charts (the only #1 hit he would have), to #4 on the pop music charts, and to #3 on the rhythm & blues charts. In the United Kingdom, it became a Top 10 hit. It was the first record by a Sun label artist to sell a million copies. However, at the peak of the song's national success, Perkins was involved in a near-fatal car accident. Perkins could only watch as his friend, Elvis Presley, had a huge hit with a cover version of "Blue Suede Shoes".Invariably, Carl's contributions have received short-shrift in the numerous biographical films about the other members of the 'Million Dollar Quartet' (Presley, Cash & Lewis). His only notable film performance as an actor was in John Landis' 1985 film "Into the Night", a cameo-laden film that includes a scene where characters played by Carl and David Bowie die at each other's hand. And Carl Perkins died at the age of 65 from throat cancer after suffering several strokes. He is interred in the Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson, Tennessee.
Blue Suede Shoe song
(words & music by carl perkins)
Well, its one for the money,Two for the show,
Three to get ready,Now go, cat, go.
But dont you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.
Well, you can knock me down,Step in my face,
Slander my nameAll over the place.
Do anything that you want to do,
but uh-uh,Honey, lay off of my shoes
Dont you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.
You can burn my house,Steal my car,Drink my liquor
From an old fruitjar.Do anything that you want to do,
but uh-uh,Honey, lay off of my shoes
Dont you step on my blue suede shoes. You can do anything
but lay off of my blue suede shoes.
"Blue Suede Shoes" is a rock and roll standard written and first recorded by Carl Perkins in 1955. It is considered one of the first rock and roll records and incorporated elements of blues, country and pop music of the time. It was the first song to top the U.S. country, rhythm and blues and pop music charts. And Elvis Presley also borrowed this song, recorded his version of this song in 1956, waiting until his friend Perkins' version had left the charts.
When I was listening to both of their songs and compared how their unique style.Even both of them sang quit same kind of music, Rock & Roll, But Carl songs or his sing had sense of country sound more than Elvis.
